1000 NM upwind – day 14 (4 photos)

Vieste – Komiža, Vis island 86 NM

I was lucky to be a part of this fabulous adventure 1 and half-year ago. We had to transfer a 36 foot long sailing boat from Finike (Turkey) to Funtana (Croatia). We made it in 17 days and we left 1142 NM behind us. The route was Porec (Croatia) – Wien (Austria) – Antalya (Turkey) – Finike (Turkey) – Rhodos (Greece) – Kos (Greece) – Amorgos (Greece) – Mykonos (Greece) – Athene (Greece) – Chorint (Greece) – Nafpaktos (Greece) – Corfu (Greece) – Otranto (Italy) – Monopoli (Italy) – Vieste (Italy) – Vis (Croatia) – Murter (Croatia) – Unije (Croatia) and home, Funtana. It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 14, the 06.10.2010.  Vieste – Komiža, Vis island 86 NM

The silent day. After yesterdays “adventure” we were not in the right mood that day. We left Vieste in Italy at 11:00 and had to sail over the Adria to the Vis island in Croatia. Very very long 86 NM. No talking, no laughing. Everyone was just sitting and thinking about yesterday. The best things we saw that day were Palagruža, the most distant island from the Croatian Adriatic coast and the Croatian flag on the boat. We were almost home.

Monopoli – Vieste 86 NM

I was lucky to be a part of this fabulous adventure 1 and half-year ago. We had to transfer a 36 foot long sailing boat from Finike (Turkey) to Funtana (Croatia). We made it in 17 days and we left 1142 NM behind us. It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 13, the 05.10.2010.  Monopoli – Vieste 86 NM

The worst day of the trip. We left Monopoli at 6:40 in the morning. Out of the harbour the wind were only 3 to 5 KN. After it came to 35 KN and it was not so fun. We made a “small” mistake and almost loosed the boat and our lives. 2 hours fighting with waves and strong wind … i don’t like even to think about it. What happened on the boat stays on the boat. The only important thing is that the boat is safe, we are alive and still friends. I don’t know how many friendships would survive such a situation. There are not too much photos of that day, here are only this few poor shots.

1000 NM UPWIND – DAY 12/17 (38 PHOTOS)

Otranto – Monopoli 80 NM

I was lucky to be a part of this fabulous adventure 1 and half-year ago. We had to transfer a 36 foot long sailing boat from Finike (Turkey) to Funtana (Croatia). We made it in 17 days and we left 1142 NM behind us. It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 12, the 04.10.2010. Otranto – Monopoli 80 NM

We left Otranto at 8:00 in the morning. Wind between 2o and 25 KN. It was a good sailing that day. The South Italy coast is not that interesting from the sea-side, no islands, no small towns practically and not too much traffic on the sea. The best thing that day were the waves. We arrived in Monopoli at 18:15. Monopoli is an interesting small town with a lot fishermen and fishing boats. The atmosphere in the port was like in the old italian movies.

Corfu – Otranto 84 NM

I was lucky to be a part of this fabulous adventure 1 and half-year ago. We had to transfer a 36 foot long sailing boat from Finike (Turkey) to Funtana (Croatia). We made it in 17 days and we left 1142 NM behind us. It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 11, the 03.10.2010. Corfu – Otranto (Italy) 84 NM

We arrived at Corfu the day before practically without a drop of diesel and water. First thing in the morning was to repair the genoa (we had problems with that sail the day before) and since it was Sunday, to find an open gas station. We found one in Gouvia near Kerykira. After fixing and preparing the boat we left Greece. We were in Albanian water for short time and then we headed to Italy. 84 NM without wind. All the sails were open, the engine running and we spent the whole day lying on the deck, taking sun and relaxing. We arrived in Otranto late in the night. It was the most relaxing day of the whole trip.

Nafpaktos – Corfu 136 NM

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 10, the 02.10.2010. Nafpaktos – Corfu 136 NM

Night, day, night … the “longest day” of the trip. We were sitting on a terrace in Nafpaktos and around midnight we saw that the sea was calm like the oil. After a 5 minutes discussion we decided to sail away. The boat was ready in 1 hour so we left Nafpaktos. We were not sure on which point to sail under the bridge (the one connecting Greece and Pelopones) but we made it. The sea was crowded, full of cruisers and fisherboats  so we had to keep watching our radar and gps. It was a “hard” night. The day was better but then we had strong wind again. We arrived to Corfu at 22:00. What a ride… 136 NM in 21 hours.

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 9, the 01.10.2010. Chorint – Nafpaktos 60 NM

North, here we come… the nice weather was over, this was the third day with strong wind and occasional sun. We left Chorint in the morning and arrived to Nafpaktos at 17:00. Wind 25 to 30 Kn and mostly cold. The harbour in Nafpaktos was small but nice. A lot of bars and, i would say, the most beautiful girls we saw in whole Greece.

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 8, the 30.09.2010. Glyfada (Athene) – Chorint  40 NM

We left Athene at 9:30 with 15 Kn wind. Before Chorint canal the wind was much stronger (more than 35 Kn) and we had a wild ride till the canal. It was pretty exhausting but we made it. To transit the Chorint canal is a great sensation. We had also the luck to be the only boat going North. Very peaceful 3.5 NM. After the canal again 35 KN of wind so we decided to stop in Chorint and overnight.

Here is the day 7, the 29.09.2010. Mykonos – Glyfada (Athene) 88 NM

the boring day … we left Mykonos at 6:30 and spent the whole day in the middle of nothing … one break for lunch on the Kytonos island and then nothing except strong wind till Glyfada before Athene. We found a huge new and not finished marina in Glyfada and spent the night there. Strong wind whole night. The Cyclades were behind us and North was attending …

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 6, the 28.09.2010. Amorgos – Mykonos 65 NM

Hmmmm, that day is one of the best from the 17 days spent on sea. We had the morning to discover Katapola on Amorgos island and made a great breakfast with some typical vanilla waffle (? don’t remember the exact name but still remember the taste). We left Katapola around 10 and sailed in direction of Mykonos. We made a break in the Apollon bay on Nexos island. Lunch, fast jump in the sea and then to Mykonos. On the way we saw a lot of dolphins but i wasn’t prepared so the shots were not that good. We arrived on Mykonos at 19:00, went out for dinner and few drinks and spent the whole night dancing, drinking and having fun with some beautifull girls from Philadelphia. What a night :)

You have to fight with your own boat and waves, wind and the boats around you, and off corse with the shutter speed :)

Here are some my shots of the RC44 cup in Rovinj, my hometown. I enjoyed 4 days around them and I’m pretty satisfied with the photos.

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 5, the 27.09.2010. Kos – Amorgos 83 NM

We left Kos island at 8:00 in the morning and had in plan to arrive to Mykonos that day but… the sea was “big”, the wind strong (upwind) NE and we decided to make a stop on Amorgos island – it was a great idea. Amorgos is a really beautifull island and so is Katapola, the small town where we made a stop. We arrived at 19:30, had dinner, drunk few beers and go to sleep. It was a good day.

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 4, the 26.09.2010. Rhodos – Kos 50 NM

The BAD day, the hangover day … since we left Rhodos at 6 in the morning (from a club) i was practically sleeping. I can remember only huge waves and strong wind. It was the only time in the 17 days that i was waiting the whole day to see the land. Like i said, a BAD day with bad waves, bad wind, bad hangover and bed photos. The day 5 was little bit better…

It was the adventure of my life, the 17 best days ever.

Here is the day 3, the 25.09.2010. Rhodos

After a long night with a “nice” storm on the sea between Turkey and Greece (which is 6.000 m deep on some points) we arrived at Rhodos at 5 h in the morning. We had the day of and we spent it relaxing. Rhodos was one of the most interesting islands on our way and we liked particularly the night there :) We had no sleep that day, we camed directly from a club on the boat and left the island. I think our neighbours still remember us because we were so loud that we woke them up all :)

which we practically lost on preparing the boat. We left Finike on 24.09.2010 at 13:30 and arrived on Rhodos at 5 in the morning next day. Strong wind the whole night, a lot of “traffic” but it was fine. The radar and gps worked great. A night to remember.

Dominic Miller in concert… (9 photos)

I had the opportunity to see Dominic Miller Band performing in Umag  (Croatia). The city Hall was full of audience what was great to see as it was not a commercial pop concert but, I would call it, a jazz fusion performance.
The concert began with a few tunes from the last album “In a dream”, and after about half an hour started the real show when they started to play tunes from the current album “November”.
The band that accompanies Dominic was simply perfect and they also deserve to be introduced: Mike Lindup (the founder of Level 42, legendary band from the 80′s)  on keyboards, Rhani Krija on percussion and Nicolas Fiszman on the bass.
